An exhibition of works by manga artist Naoki Urasawa, known for “20th Century Boys” and other hit works, opened in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

The traveling exhibition, “This is MANGA — the Art of NAOKI URASAWA,” revisits the fascinating aspects of Urasawa’s works at the Japan House, the center of Japanese cultural experiences located in Hollywood.
 About 500 original drawings and idea notes from such popular works as “Yawara!” as well as Urasawa’s juvenilia sketches are on display.

“The manga we draw on paper have the same appeal as films, or even more appeal. I want to let people know that in Hollywood,” Urasawa said at the venue. 

The exhibition, organized by The Yomiuri Shimbun and other entities, runs in Los Angeles until March 28, then travels to London (June 5-July 28) and Sao Paulo (Oct. 29-Jan. 5, 2020).
