World Peace Day 2011
Religious freedom, the path to Peace

PEACE 2011
Fundamentalism and relativism, enemies of religious freedom and peace
In his message for World Day of Peace 2011, Benedict XVI shows solidarity with the many persecuted Christians (Iraq, the Holy Land, ...), but also highlights that persecution does not only come from Islamic terrorism, but also secular Western society that stifles the religious dimension, eliminating an important element for human life and coexistence between peoples.

Religious freedom is the path to peace, Pope says
Pope Benedict XVI’s message for World Peace Day was released today. The Holy Father remembers the Holy Land and the Baghdad cathedral massacre, noting that Christians are the most persecuted religious group in the world. He warns against the threats of fundamentalism, secularism and the politicisation of faith. Religious freedom is a right founded on the dignity of the person; it is not a concession by the state. He speaks about the public role of religion.
